About

Our name comes from the Greek word (ζάω), which means “alive” or “to have life”. We decided on this name several years ago when our old youth pastor decided we should consider a different name besides MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship). We decided to go Greek as the New Testament was written mostly in Greek and thus it was important to the church, and we decided to not use the Hebrew from the Old Testament as we are a more contemporary body. So, David, our former youth pastor, who had taken some Greek began suggesting Greek words and phrases and we settled on Zao.

We meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm for games and fellowship. We meet on Sunday mornings from 9:00 am until 10:00 am for Sunday School. We have not yet settled on curriculum since Amanda became our youth pastor, but we will probably start something soon.

One of our major activities each year is participating in the Sierra Service Project for a week each summer. The organization serves Native Americans in the Western United States and has begun ministry abroad. Our youth group specifically has served in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Oregon. It is a very powerful and fun trip that we look forward to every year.

Great expansion! I only edited it a little, making it clear that Amanda is our youth pastor now.

This isn’t really true. We don’t meet on Wednesdays for games and fellowship. Its more of an arts and crafts thing now.
